ROHTO Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd is a multinational company with a history of over 120 years, renowned for its fast moving consumer goods and OTC drugs. Headquartered in Osaka, Japan, with various domestic and overseas subsidiaries. Although we were initially known for OTC drugs, part of our DNA is to do the unexpected, and guided by the vision "Connect for Well being," we pursue businesses not limited to pharmaceutical operations to contribute to global health and people’s wellbeing.

Important: The on site internship is a mandatory step in the recruitment process. ■ Basic Research
Research on mechanism surrounding human well-being and new functional materials (eyes, skin, hair, functional food, healthcare devices).
■ Product Formulation Development
Formulation development ranging from concept design, usability, stability, safety, and upscaling (eyecare, skincare, haircare, functional food).
■ Safety and Quality design
Conduct analytical testing to ensure product’s stability, safety, and preservation, while supporting method development and regulatory compliance.
■ Regenerative medicines
Basic research and clinical application of cell-based products and therapy.
■ Data Science
Combining informatics and wet lab skills to analyze big data (Omics, GWAS, Mathematical model) and find new insight for basic research and product developments.
【Essential criteria】
Master’s, or Ph.D. in a relevant field such as Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Engineering, Bioinformatics or related disciplines.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Create a network and identify potential business partners, mainly startups, particularly in the international market.
Develop and establish new business for Rohto in Japan and international market.
Leverage global perspectives to drive the value of new ventures, contributing to Rohto’s expansion strategy beyond Japan, with a strong focus on Asia and potential acceleration in Europe and North America.
【Essential criteria】
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Corporate Management, Science (biology, chemistry, pharmacy, etc.) or a related field. Advanced degree can be an asset.
Experience in new business development or entrepreneurship, such as internship, previous work, extracurricular activities, manage own business, joining startups team, etc.
Fluency in English.

Registration of pharmaceutical products, medical devices and/or cosmetics in various countries.
Research on regulatory requirements (product registration, manufacturing license, distribution and so on) of pharmaceutical products, medical devices and/or cosmetics in various countries.
Investigate the feasibility on introducing pharmaceutical products, medical devices and/or cosmetics from various countries.
【Essential criteria】
Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Chemistry, or a related field. Advanced degree can be an asset.
Japanese proficiency: Business conversational level, including some reading and writing skills (Certificate of JLPT-N2 or equivalent)
【Desirable criteria】
Experience and familiarity with regulatory requirements and submission processes for OTC, cosmetic, medical device or pharmaceutical products can be a strong asset.

Compensation & Benefits
■Starting Salary (Monthly)
For fresh graduates:
Bachelor's Degree: ¥240,000
Master's Degree: ¥262,000
Doctorate: ¥280,000
All figures are based on numbers for April 2024 hires.
For mid career : will be discussed
■Allowances
Overtime pay, holiday work pay, meal allowance, dependent family allowance, commuting allowance, housing allowance, position allowance, and more. Allowances are provided based on eligibility and in accordance with company regulations.
■Housing for Single Employees
Employees can choose housing within the company’s regulations and live there for a personal cost of ¥18,000 or more. Allowances are provided based on eligibility and in accordance with company regulations.
■Bonuses
Paid twice a year (June and December).
Bonuses include a fixed portion based on base salary and a performance portion reflecting individual results.
Standard annual bonus: Approximately 4~5 months of salary.
Note: This standard may not apply during the first year of employment.
■Salary Increases
Based annual performance evaluation.

Approach to Health Management
■ Health Management
At Rohto, we aim for "true health," starting with ensuring the health of our employees as the foundation of well being. We implement health focused management by setting various health KPIs and taking actions to achieve them, involving all employees in these initiatives.
■ Smoking Policy
In 2018, we set a goal to achieve a 0% smoking rate among employees by April 2020. We supported employees in voluntarily quitting smoking, and as of April 2020, 99.9% of employees are non smokers. Therefore, we request non smoking during work hours, on site, indoors, and in daily life.
